Your IT landscape in KANAP in ten minutes¶
Explore with the example · Start with my own data
In ten minutes, your locations, your applications, their technologies and your servers are in KANAP, your first end of support dates show, and a colleague can keep the map up to date. Starting with your own data erases the example: what you see at the end comes from you.
These are the five steps of the Your first five steps tile on the home page, for the path The IT landscape map with Start with my own data. Each step in the tile opens its screen with a short hint. Click Done in the hint, or the mark next to the step, once you have done it. See Trial: your path and first steps.
1. Your locations¶
IT landscape > Locations
What to do. Click Add location and create your server rooms, data centers or clouds: a code, a name and a hosting type.
What you see. Every server belongs to a location, which gives it its provider, hosting type and country. A location missing later can also be created from the Location field of a server.
2. Your applications¶
IT landscape > Applications
What to do. Either import the list of your applications, or create them one by one.
- Import a file. Click Import, then Download an example: a workbook with a few applications and what each column takes. Fill in yours, then Import the file.
- Create an application. Click New application, type its name in the title and press Enter. Fill in the properties panel, then click Create. Cancel drops it.
What you see. One record per application. Complete the criticality and the IT owners of the most important ones first.
3. Your technologies¶
IT landscape > Technologies
What to do. Click New technology and pick a product in the Catalog, for example your database. Then open an application, Operations tab, and under Technologies click Add to link the technology at its version.
What you see. Your workspace already holds Windows Server and Ubuntu. A technology taken from the catalog comes with its versions and their end of support dates, kept up to date by KANAP. The end of support then shows on the application, and IT landscape > End of support lists what reaches it.
4. Your servers¶
IT landscape > Assets
What to do. Click Add asset, or Import a file for many servers. Choose the asset type and the location, then Create. To link a server to an application, open the application, Deployments tab: Add deployment for the environment, then Add server.
What you see. The application's deployment block lists its servers, and the server lists the application under Hosted applications in its Operations tab. The end of support and the vulnerabilities of its technologies now reach the server.
5. A colleague¶
Admin > Users
What to do. Click New, enter the Email of an application or asset owner, choose IT Landscape Member under Roles, then Save and invite. Add them to the IT owners of their application.
What you see. Your colleague shows with the status Invited and receives an email with a link to choose a password. IT Landscape Member can change applications and infrastructure.
Next¶
Your IT landscape is in KANAP. The two other paths also take ten minutes, on your data:
When the five steps are done, the tile offers these paths. During the trial, it also offers Book a discovery call.
